Baseball: CMU Picked Second In MAC

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – The Central Michigan baseball team was picked to finish second in the Mid-American Conference in a poll of league coaches, released today.
The Chippewas, the defending MAC West Division champions, received 86 points. Kent State received 98 points and eight first-place votes to finish atop the poll.
Ball State, with 73 points, was picked to finish third, followed by Ohio, Miami (Ohio), Western Michigan, Eastern Michigan, Toledo, Northern Illinois and Bowling Green. Northern Illinois and Miami each received one first-place vote.
With 10 schools now sponsoring baseball, the league has scrapped the divisional format.
CMU, which finished 31-28 last season, opens the season on Friday with two games in Edinburg, Texas. The Chippewas will play Stephen F. Austin at 4 p.m., and then will take on Texas Rio Grande Valley at 8 p.m. CMU will remain in Edinburg and will play UTRGV on Saturday (4 p.m.) and close its season-opening weekend on Sunday against Stephen F. Austin at noon.
