A surprise donation, online bidding in the annual silent auction and a perfect day for golf led to a record-shattering night for the Chippewa Challenge in 2017.
Registration is open for the 2018 Chippewa Challenge, presented by the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe, Soaring Eagle Casino & Resort, CMU Bookstore and Graff Chevrolet. Spots in the event, set for Friday, June 8, are expected to fill quickly. Golfers can register, play at one of three courses and enjoy a festive dinner at the Soaring Eagle Casino and Resort while supporting Central Michigan Athletics.
Last year, Dick Enberg, a distinguished alum of Central Michigan, a CMU Athletics Hall of Famer and national honorary campaign chair, and his wife, Barbara, teamed with CMU College of Science and Engineering distinguished alum, attorney and venture investor Todd Anson and his wife, Terri, to make a gift, matching dollar for dollar, the net profit of the event.
Golf begins with a 9:30 a.m. shotgun start and 18 holes at Bucks Run Golf Club, Pohlcat Golf Course or Mount Pleasant Country Club. Golfers can register for $175 for a single or $700 for a team. Entry fee includes lunch and drinks on the course, a premium registration gift, on-course contests and a chance to mingle with CMU coaches and student-athletes.
Dinner at the Soaring Eagle Casino and Resort begins at 4 p.m.
Golfers also can have an impact on the success of the Chippewa Challenge through a number of ways, such as purchasing a sponsorship or donating a silent auction item. Register or learn more about sponsorships and donations by calling the Chippewa Athletic Fund office at 989-774-6680.
