4/27/2018 12:00:00 AM | MTF
SETTING THE SCENE
The Central Michigan track and field teams will split into three groups this weekend to compete at meets in three states.
The first platoon will be in action on Thursday and Friday at the 52nd GINA Relays at Hillsdale, while the other two will showcase their talents on both Friday and Saturday at the Ashland (Ohio) Alumni Open, and at the Louisville Lenny Lyles/Clark Wood Invite.
WHO & WHERE
Eighteen CMU runners will travel to Hillsdale and participate primarily in the longer events (3,000-meter steeplechase, and the 5,000- and 10,000-meter runs). There will also be a contingent from each gender in the 800, and one foursome in the women's 4x800 relay.
Kevin Weiler and Erin Howard will lead seven Chippewa throwers at Ashland, a meet that will feature only field events.
The largest segment of the CMU team, a mixture of 27 sprinters and jumpers, are slated to compete in Louisville.
THE OPPOSITION
The Lenny Lyles/Clark Wood Invite will host the most challenging list of competitors. In addition to the host Cardinals, athletes from schools such as Butler, Cincinnati, DePaul, Indiana, Minnesota, Saint Louis and Western Kentucky are scheduled to attend. In total, 21 teams will be involved in the fray.
SCHEDULE
The distance athletes at Hillsdale will see action primarily on Friday evening, while the Chippewa throwers will compete primarily only on Saturday at Louisville.
