Two Mid-Week Nonleaguers Next For CMU Baseball

SETTING THE SCENE
The Central Michigan baseball team will play back-to-back nonleague home games this week against Michigan and against Clearly at Keilitz Field at Theunissen Stadium.
The Chippewas will take on the Wolverines on Tuesday and will play the Cougars on Wednesday. Both games carry a 4:05 p.m. start. The CMU-Cleary game was originally scheduled for April 4 and was postponed because of weather.
SPECIAL DAY
Tuesday's game against Michigan is the Chippewas' annual PCUPS Foundation event in support of prostate cancer awareness and testing. Information about prostate cancer and testing will be available, and players from both teams will wear blue wristbands.
LAST TIME OUT
The Chippewas topped Eastern Michigan, 12-3, on Sunday in the final game of a three-game Mid-American Conference series. CMU lost the first two games of the series, and emerged from the weekend 12-9 in league games.
The Chippewas are fourth in the conference standings, one game ahead of the fifth-place Eagles and two ahead of sixth-place Toledo. The top six teams in the standings earn a berth to the MAC Tournament.
SCOUTING
• Michigan is 29-14 and coming off a weekend Big Ten series in which it took two of three from Rutgers. Michigan is 14-3 in league play and tied for first in the Big Ten with Minnesota.
• Cleary, an NAIA school in Howell, is 20-25. The Cougars enter Wednesday's game on a six-game win streak.
WHO'S HOT
CMU's Griffin Lockwood-Powell had five hits in 11 at-bats in the Eastern Michigan series. Among his hits was a grand slam, which accounted for four of his eight RBI in the three games. CMU pitcher Michael Brettell tossed his second complete game of the season against EMU.
MILESTONE
Sunday's win over Eastern Michigan was the 498th for Steve Jaksa as the Chippewas' coach.
NEXT
CMU goes to Miami (Ohio) this weekend for a three-game series. The RedHawks are in second place in the MAC with a 13-8 conference record, one game ahead of the Chippewas.
