Spacious locker room, team room unveiled to student-athletes
More than ever, the home of Central Michigan soccer feels like a home. The soccer student-athletes walked into their new team area and locker room Friday at the lacrosse-soccer facility.
Â
They saw 32 new lockers, a team meeting room with a nutrition station, a wide-screen television, six cushioned chairs and a study area.
Â
The upgraded rooms, part of a multi-stage, multi-year renovation of CMU Athletics facilities spearheaded by Associate Vice President and Director of Athletics Michael Alford, drew rave reviews from soccer team, which saw the finished product for the first time. Many of the student-athletes used cell phones to capture video of the moment, and they moved quickly throughout the space to check their lockers, the team room and the stocked nutrition center.
Â
"Jerky! There is jerky in here!" one said.
Â
"This is the payoff," Alford said. "This is transformational for our soccer program, and it's an enormous upgrade over our previous locker room in terms of location, functionality and design."
Â
The soccer team, 0-1, plays host to Southern Utah in a 1 p.m. game Sunday.
