Senior sprinter's 400 time is best in the MAC this season

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. -- Central Michigan's Ben Hayes was named the Mid-American Conference Athlete of the Week for men's track and field on Tuesday afternoon.

Hayes, a senior from Belleville, placed second in the 400-meter dash at the Notre Dame Invitational on Saturday. Hayes' time of 48.01 seconds is the best in the MAC this season and ranks 47^th nationally.

Hayes also ran a leg on the Chippewas' 4x400 relay team that placed second in 3:15.75 at Notre Dame.
