MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. -- Three Central Michigan baseball players have been named a Preseason All-American by Collegiate Baseball magazine, and the Chippewas are ranked 38th in the publication's Fabulous 40 preseason poll.
Â
CMU's Griffin Lockwood-Powell, Cameron Brown and Zavier Warren are among 81 players from across the nation so honored.
Â
CMU is one of seven teams to have had as many as three players named to the squad. The others are Louisville, Miami (Fla.), Michigan, Mississippi State, New Mexico State and Vanderbilt.
Â
Louisville is No. 1 in the poll, followed by Vanderbilt, Texas Tech, Miami and Arizona State. At No. 38, the Chippewas are one ahead of Ball State, the only other Mid-American Conference team in the poll.
Â
Central Michigan is the defending MAC regular-season and conference champion and coming off a season in which it tied a program record with 47 victories and earned an NCAA Tournament berth for the first time since 1995.

Lockwood-Powell was named to the Preseason All-American Second Team, while Warren and Brown each earned a spot on the third team.

He was named to the All-MAC First Team, the American Baseball Coaches Association All-Region First Team, and the MAC Tournament Most Valuable Player.
Â

He also earned First Team All-MAC honors and a spot on the league's all-tournament squad. He led the conference in on-base percentage (.502), runs (73), doubles (23) and walks (54) and ranked second in hits (90) and RBI (70).
Â
Brown, a senior right-hander from Pontiac, Ill., went 10-1 with a 3.20 earned run average last season. He struck out 79 in 98 1/3 innings. Brown's 10 wins tied for the most among MAC pitchers and he earned Second Team All-MAC and a spot on the league all-tournament team.
