Chippewas take on San Diego State on Saturday, Dec. 21
Central Michigan Football is headed to the New Mexico Bowl to take on San Diego State on Saturday, Dec. 21.
Â
The game will take place at Dreamstyle Stadium in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Kick is set for Noon MT/2 p.m. ET and will be shown on ESPN. This is CMU's 12th bowl appearance and 10th game in the last 14 years.
Â
"This is an exciting opportunity for our program to represent this university on a national stage," said Michael Alford, Zyzelewski Family Associate Vice President/Director of Athletics. "I have heard fantastic things about the New Mexico Bowl and the hospitality they show the visiting teams. I hope we have a bunch of Chippewa fans who can get to a great destination spot, Albuquerque, and support our team."
Â
This is the first meeting between Central Michigan and San Diego State. San Diego State had a 9-3 overall record, going 5-3 in the Mountain West. The Aztecs are appearing in a bowl game for the tenth straight season, which is the first time in school history that has happened. SDSU had five players on the First Team All-Mountain West Team and four players on second team.
Â
"I can't wait for our group to be able to play one more game together," Head coach Jim McElwain said. "I am so proud of everything these guys have done to represent this university and this opportunity is well deserved. I am very fortunate to have played in this game before and the people of Albuquerque and the bowl committee go out of their way to make it a great experience for both teams. San Diego State is a great team and I have a lot of respect for Coach Long and this staff."
Purchasing tickets through CMU is the easiest way fans and alumni can show support for the Chippewas during the bowl season for two key reasons:
1. Obtaining tickets through Ticket Central at 888-FIRE-UP2 directly helps CMU football student-athletes enjoy the best possible bowl experience. Fans can also go online to buy from Ticket Central 24/7 by clicking here.
2. Buying tickets through CMU is the only way to ensure seating in CMU sections, located in lower sections D, E, and F.
Tickets cost $45 plus order fees. You can purchase now online, or they go on sale at 10 a.m. Monday at Ticket Central either by visiting in person or calling 888-FIRE-UP2. Will Call in Albuquerque will be the only delivery option at Gate 8. Tickets will only be available until Wednesday, Dec. 18, at 11:59 p.m., so get yours today!
Â
A chance to cheer and help the Chippewas: CMU fans can play an active role in creating a first-class bowl experience for the CMU Chippewas and the Chippewa Marching Band by donating to the Bowl Game Championship Fund. CMU will not receive sufficient revenue from its appearance to cover travel expenses for the team and marching band. All individuals donating $100 or more will receive 2019/20 Chippewa Club membership credit. Go online to donate to the Bowl Championship Fund or contact the Chippewa Athletic Fund at 989-774-6680.
