MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – Former Central Michigan standout Eric Fisher has been nominated for the NFL Salute to Service Award.
Fisher, who played at CMU from 2009-12, is in his eighth year with the Kansas Chiefs after the team drafted him with the first overall pick in the 2013 NFL Draft. He has played in 111 games, 107 of them starts, in his career and helped lead the Chiefs to victory in Super Bowl LIV.
The Salute to Service Award recognizes NFL players, coaches, personnel and alumni who have dedicated time to honoring and supporting the military. Each of the league's 32 teams may make one nomination.
Fisher, a native of Rochester, has worked closely with Michigan-based Reunite the Fight, a group of Marine combat veterans who annually meet and who facilitate reunions of veterans across the country with hunting and fishing trips.
Fisher began his work with Reunite the Fight in 2017 by providing a race gear to a group of veterans. He has since participated in golf tournaments benefiting the nonprofit, donated game tickets to veterans, and recruited fellow Chiefs to join the mission.
Finalists are scheduled to be announced in January, and the recipient will be recognized at NFL Honors, a primetime awards show that airs nationally in the week leading up to Super Bowl LV.
