MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. --The Central Michigan track & field team will travel to Allendale to compete in the Grand Valley State University Big Meet on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 14-15.
Â
Chippewas in the Rankings
Three Chippewas rank in the top 50 nationally in three events:
Â
• Nadia Williams is fourth in the women's long jump at 21 feet, 1 ¼ inches.
Â
• Logan Targgart ranks sixth in the men's weight throw at 71-11. That mark, which he hit last weekend at the Notre Dame Meyo Invitational, tied the CMU program record.
Â
• Quiara Wheeler is ranked No. 42 in the women's weight throw at 64-9 ¼.
Â
An athlete ranking in the top 16 qualifies for the NCAA Indoor National Championships which are scheduled for March 13-14 in Albuquerque, N.M.
Â
Preparing for the MAC Championships
The Mid-American Conference Indoor Championships, scheduled for Akron, are just two weeks away (Feb. 28-29).
Â
For some athletes, the GVSU Big Meet will be the last in which they will compete and will use the ensuing two meets to train and rest for league meet.
Â
Keeping a competitive mindset and staying sharp are critical at this point in the season, CMU director of track & field/cross country Jenny Swieton said.
Â
"There's a lot we can do in training to prepare them," she said. "But just learning and remembering how to race appropriately I think are the big things we accomplish at meets."
Â
Next
CMU will travel to Ann Arbor to compete in the Michigan Silverston Invitational on Feb. 21. It is CMU's final competition ahead of the MAC Indoor Championships.
