CMU plays at home next weekend
SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- The Central Michigan lacrosse team opened the season on Sunday with a 24-4 loss to No. 7 Notre Dame.
Â
How It Happened
Notre Dame scored 11-consecutive goals to close the first half with a 17-2 lead. The Fighting Irish finished with a 35-10 advantage in shots.
Â
"We played hard, and cleared the ball well," CMU coach Sara Tisdale said. "We saw a few players really step up as the game got more intense; Johnsen, Savage, and Brennan Paddy showed us they are players we can look to.
Â
"Playing a team that is fast and makes adjustments as well teaches our team to take full advantage of the 90 seconds we have when we get them. We can't throw away opportunities."
Â
Chippewa Offense
Natalie Karlen and Olivia Johnsen scored goals in the first 15 minutes of the game to keep the Chippewas in it. Karlen also had an assist. The goal for Johnsen, a sophomore from Hillsborough, N.J, is the first of her CMU career.
Â
Emma Hamilton and Jessica Schuchardt scored goals in the second half for CMU.
Â
In Net
Hope Murray split time in net with Sierra Savage for the Chippewas. Murray played over 21 minutes in the first half, made five saves, and allowed 13 goals (.278 percentage). Savage played the remaining 38-plus minutes, surrendering 11 goals and making three saves (.214 percentage).

Next
CMU will play its first home game of the season on Sunday, Feb. 23 (noon), when it entertains Butler. CMU defeated Butler, 16-6, in Indianapolis last year.
