Groves Adds 1 To Class Of 2020

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – Central Michigan soccer coach Jeremy Groves has announced the signing of Matilda Viktoria Melin of Ornskoldsvik, Sweden.
Melin is a 5-foot-8 center back who played most recently with Sjalevads IK in Ornskoldsvik. She helped Angermanland to the Swedish National Championship in 2018. She graduated from Nolaskolan Senior High School.
Melin becomes the 12th member of coach Jeremy Groves' first recruiting class at CMU. Groves announced in November the signing of 11 student-athletes who, along with Melin, will join the program for the 2020 season.
Members of the class come from a wide array of geographical areas, beginning with Melin and Sweden. Others in the class hail from the likes of Canada and California along with several from the Midwest.
"We are extremely excited with this class," Groves said. "We believe this group of players are going to come in and compete to play straight away and help us achieve the goals we are aiming for. They are all good players who play at a good level and have enjoyed a lot of success in high school and club soccer.
"We are welcoming players who play in every position on the field, GKs, defenders, midfielders and forwards. We are really looking forward to August when we will welcome them on campus".
Groves took over the program a year ago and guided the Chippewas to a 7-6-2 finish in 2019.
