MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. -- The Central Michigan track & field team is set to compete on Friday in the Silverston Invitational, hosted by, Michigan at the U-M Indoor Track Building.
Â
The meet is scheduled to kick off at 4 p.m. with the men's high jump and women's 60-meter hurdle preliminaries. It is scheduled to conclude at approximately 7:30 p.m. The final event is the 4x400 relay.
Â
It is the final meet before the Chippewas head to Akron, Ohio for the Mid-American Conference Indoor Championships on Friday and Saturday Feb. 28-29. CMU competed at Akron on Jan. 17 in a dual meet.
Â
Where They Stand
Two Chippewas, Logan Targgart and Nadia Williams, rank among the top 10 in the nation in the men's weight throw and the women's long jump, respectively.
Â
Targgart is seventh with a throw of 71 feet, 11 inches, which is tied for the Chippewa program record. Williams is eighth with a leap of 21-1 ¼.
Â
Also for CMU, Quiara Wheeler ranks 49th in the country in the women's weight throw at 64-9 ¼.
Â
The top 16 athletes in each event advance to the NCAA Indoor National Championship in Albuquerque, N.M. on March 13-14.
Â
Gearing Up
Several Chippewas posted personal bests or made big improvements last week at the Grand Valley State Big Meet. Some will look to continue that trend this weekend at Michigan, while others will prep, in various ways, for the all-important MAC Championships.
Â
"I think it's important to get a couple of good solid workouts, but also then get a little bit of recovery this weekend," CMU director of track & field/cross country Jenny Swieton said. "For most of the people that aren't competing, I think they're just excited to make sure they're all caught up on their homework and their studies so they don't go into MAC week stressed out about anything that's left on the table."
