
Lacrosse Takes On Cincinnati On Sunday

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. -- The Central Michigan lacrosse team travels to Cincinnati on Sunday for a game against Cincinnati on Sunday, March. 1 (noon).

Last year, these two teams faced off in Mount Pleasant where the Chippewas defeated the Bearcats, 12-11, in overtime. It was the first time in program history that CMU defeated the Bearcats.

Last Time Out
CMU (1-1) defeated Butler 14-2 in its home opener last Sunday, bouncing back from a season-opening loss at No. 7 Notre Dame.

"I think our team played very maturely (against Butler)," CMU coach Sara Tisdale said. "You saw a lot of senior leadership and young excitement. We were in the driver's seat from the first draw."

Honors
Two Chippewas earned weekly Southern Conference honors for their respective performances in the win over Butler. player of the week.

CMU senior Jessica Schuchardt had a goal and five assists against the Bulldogs, earning the SoCon Offensive Player of the Week Award. CMU goalkeeper Hope Murray, a senior, earned the league's Defensive Player of the Week Award after making six saves and posting an .857 save percentage in the game.

Natalie Karlen and Schuchardt are tied for the CMU team lead in points with seven. Karlen, Emma Hamilton and Shannon Doyle share the team lead with four goals. Schuchardt leads CMU in assists with five.

Murray has played more than 74 minutes in net, has a .440 save percentage, and a goals against average of 11.30.

Cincinnati is 0-4 after a 20-5 loss to Virginia Tech on Wednesday. Cincinnati is a member of the American Athletic Conference.

Senior Monica Borzillo leads the Bearcats in points with 14, in goals with nine, and is tied for the team lead in assists with Peyton Mottice with five.

Borzillo is Cincinnati's career leader in points (250) and assists (108) and ranks second in program history with 142 goals.

Bearcat goalie Kate Brocato has played more than 167 minutes in net, has a save percentage of .325, and a goals against average of 18.59.

Competitive Game
The Chippewas and Bearcats have met four times, and each contest has been competitive. Sunday's game should be no different, Tisdale said.

"Cincinnati plays a very competitive nonconference and in-conference schedule," Tisdale said. "They're very consistent. Not a lot of change from last year. Maybe they got a little more athletic, a little faster, a little more composed with another year under their belt.

"It's a really good test for us to see where we stack up. Our players, they want to prove that last year wasn't a fluke. We are competing against a quality opponent and (want) to come away with a win."

CMU will be on the road on Wednesday, March. 4 (1 p.m.) against Marquette. The Chippewas will return home on Sunday, March. 8 (noon) to take on Stetson.
