Lacrosse Tops Stetson

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – Emma Hamilton scored four goals and Shannon Doyle added three on Sunday as the Central Michigan lacrosse team snapped a two-game losing streak with a 14-11 win over Stetson 14 at the CMU Lacrosse-Soccer Complex.
The Chippewas improved to 2-3.
"We needed this one," CMU coach Sara Tisdale said. "We needed to shift momentum on our side. We talked a lot about stacking performances together. You saw a much better performance on that today to where we were able to actually take good moments (and use it as momentum).
"Whether if it was a good defensive stop, or a draw win resulting in a goal. Overall, I'm pretty happy with the result that we had. I think moving forward into next weekend, we'll want to carry this momentum with us."
How It Happened
The Chippewas trailed briefly, 1-0, early on and then scored five-consecutive goals for a 5-1 lead.
Stetson never tied it or gained the lead, but the Chippewas never got comfortable until Natalie Karlen scored with 8:19 to play to put the Chippewas up, 13-11. Hannah Potter added an insurance goal with under 10 seconds remaining.
Leaders
Hamilton and Prince each had five points to lead CMU. Prince had two goals and three assists. Karlen finished with two goals and two assists.
Improvements
"I think there was a lot of good movement that we weren't seeing in the last couple of games," Hamilton said. "Obviously it's not just me scoring, it's everyone else, and I think it was a huge team effort to get anyone to score today."
"They slid early on defense, so it was important to keep my head up, and I saw cutters cutting in backdoor," Prince said. "I think our team has great vision off the ball and they were moving really well for me to hit them."
High Energy
Hamilton said the Chippewas displayed high energy in warmups, and that carried over into the game.
"Today the warmup was awesome," the senior attacker said. "It wasn't the type of warmup where we came out and we were 100 percent right away. We built up to 100 percent, and we were ready to play."
"One thing we worked on was keeping the energy steady, not too high, not too low, throughout warmup," Prince said.
Next
CMU will play in a pair of nonconference road games next week. They are scheduled to play at Kent State on Friday, March 13 (3 p.m.) and then at Akron on Sunday, March 15 (1 p.m.).
