Series will include games in 2023, 2027 and 2030.
Central Michigan announced a new football series with Michigan State today.
The series includes three games in East Lansing: September 2, 2023, September 11, 2027 and August 31, 2030.
"There is such a great tradition between Central Michigan and Michigan State, and we are excited to build on that with this three-game series," Zyzelewski Family Associate Vice President/Director of Athletics Michael Alford said. "I appreciate the staff at Michigan State working with us to put together a series that I know our fans and alumni really look forward to and is another great opportunity to play an in-state opponent."
This series has produced three of the biggest wins in CMU Football history. The Chippewas began the series with back-to-back wins in 1991 and 1992. In the first meeting, CMU stunned the 18th-ranked Spartans 20-3 and followed that up with a 24-20 victory in the next year. Central Michigan also beat Michigan State in 2009, using a late onside kick recovery and field goal to post a 29-27 win.
In total, CMU and MSU have met 11 times with the last meeting coming in 2018. Ten of the 11 games have taken place in East Lansing with the lone Mount Pleasant meeting coming in 2012.
The game in 2023 takes the place of a contest scheduled at Alabama.
