Central Michigan Football announced today that Ty Brock, Richard Bowens III and Aarion Harvey will be joining the Chippewas for the 2020 season.
Brock is a quarterback from College Station, Texas who comes to CMU from Sam Houston State. Bowens III is a cornerback who is a Detroit native coming to CMU from Iowa State. Harvey is an offensive lineman from Chicago, Ill., who played last season at Hudson Valley Community College.
Brock (6-4, 201) saw action in 21 games for SHSU over the past two seasons. He threw for 3,885 yards and 24 touchdowns in that span. In his freshman season, Brock was a finalist for Jerry Rice Award (top freshman in FCS), finishing 12th in the voting. He was also an honorable mention selection to the HERO Sports Freshman All-America team.
"Ty is bringing great experience and veteran leadership into our locker room," head coach Jim McElwain said. "He's played in and won some big games and has persevered through a lot during his career. He is going to be a great addition to our program."
Bowens (6-1, 193) played in 20 games for the Cyclones, making eight tackles and recording a fumble recovery. He played his high school ball at Orchard Lake St. Mary's Prep, earning all-state honors and leading his squad to three state titles. Bowens was also a standout in track & field, winning back-to-back D2 state titles in the 300-meter hurdles and owns a state record time of 37.46
"Richard has tremendous positional versatility in the secondary, which he combines with great size, length, and speed," McElwain said. "He's a Michigan kid and we're thrilled to be bringing him back home!"
Harvey (6-5, 305) started every game last year as he led his squad to the 2019 NJCAA Region 3 championship, as HVCC ended the season winning four of five games. Harvey prepped at Penn Foster High School.
"Aarion is a kid with great athleticism and toughness," McElwain said. "He has overcome a lot of adversity to get to this point and he is a very impressive player and person. We couldn't be happier about bringing him to Central Michigan."
