MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – The report card is in. And once again, Central Michigan University student-athletes are at the top of the class.
CMU's 400-plus student-athletes recorded a combined grade point average of 3.373 for the fall, 2020 semester, marking the 44th consecutive semester that Chippewa student-athletes have come in above 3.000.
"In a time of consistent change and adversity, our student-athletes yet again showed their dedication to their academic success during the fall semester," said Zyzlewski Family Associate Vice President/Director of Athletics Amy Folan. "It was immediately apparent to me how seriously everyone in this department – student-athletes, coaches and staff – takes being successful in the classroom. The hard work and effort in these academic pursuits has a direct impact on us helping our student-athletes reach one of our primary goals, leaving CMU with a diploma in their hand."
The combined cumulative GPA of CMU student-athletes is 3.297, up from 3.193 one year ago.
• Sixty-three Chippewa student-athletes earned a perfect 4.00 GPA for the semester and, as a result, will be named to the President's List; another 294 CMU student-athletes finished the semester with a GPA of 3.00 or higher.
• A total of 305 CMU student-athletes carry a cumulative GPA above a 3.0; 193 of which carry a cumulative GPA of 3.50 or better and 36 student-athletes currently carry a perfect 4.00 GPA.
The women's cross country team posted the top fall cumulative GPA of 3.833 and 14 of CMU's 16 varsity teams boasted a 3.000 or better. Thirteen of the 16 teams improved their GPA from that which they posted during the fall, 2019 semester.
"The success of our student-athletes in the classroom really is a team effort, especially this semester,'" said Katie Griffin, Associate Athletics Director for Student-Athlete Services. "The daily changes and challenges made a commitment to communication and problem-solving critical for our student-athletes, coaches and staff and, I believe, everyone involved made sure we had a successful semester. We also had a lot of help from our faculty and campus partners that made our students success a top priority."
