CMU Athletics Weekly Preview

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – With fall sports still in full swing, the winter sports season is scheduled to begin this weekend as the Central Michigan women's basketball, men's basketball and wrestling teams get their respective seasons underway.
The Chippewa women's basketball team entertains Saginaw Valley State today (7 p.m.) at McGuirk Arena; the CMU men will take the court 24 hours later (7 p.m. Friday) with an exhibition game against Olivet.
The CMU volleyball team is scheduled to play two Mid-American Conference matches at Ball State, the first of which is scheduled for today (6:30 p.m.). The Chippewas and Cardinals are scheduled to close their two-match series on Friday (6:30 p.m.).
CMU is 11-14, 5-8 MAC and last weekend defeated Akron and Buffalo, both in four sets. The Cardinals are 22-3, 12-1 and have won 12 consecutive starts. Last weekend, they opened with an impressive sweep of Bowling Green, handing the defending MAC regular season and tournament champion its first league loss of the season.
Ball State and Bowling Green are 12-1 in conference play and lead their respective divisions, Ball State the West, Bowling Green the East.
The CMU wrestling team begins its season on Saturday at the Michigan State Open in East Lansing. Wrestling begins at 9:30 a.m. at MSU's Jenison Fieldhouse. The Chippewas will enter 26 wrestlers over the 10 weight classes.
