CMU heads to South Bend for a game on Sept. 16, 2023
MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – Central Michigan Football will play at Notre Dame on Saturday, Sept. 16, 2023, CMU's Zyzelewski Family Associate Vice President/Director of Athletics Amy Folan announced on Thursday, March 11.
"I am thrilled for our student-athletes to be able to play on a national stage at this iconic venue," Folan said. "Playing such a storied football program, coached by former CMU Head Coach Brian Kelly, will allow us to engage and celebrate with our CMU family and showcase all the great things happening here at Central Michigan University."
This will be CMU Football's first meeting with the Fighting Irish.
"This is an exciting matchup for our players, university, alumni and fan base. It is an opportunity to compete against one of the legendary programs in college football," CMU Head Coach Jim McElwain said.
Kelly led the Chippewas to a Mid-American Conference championship in 2006. That title was Central Michigan's first since 1994. CMU finished that season 10-4 overall, 7-1 in conference games, and won its first bowl game, defeating Middle Tennessee State in the Motor City Bowl, 31-14. Kelly had an overall record of 19-16 while at CMU, going 15-9 in conference action.
CMU's 2023 non-conference schedule also includes a home game against New Hampshire (Sept. 9) and games at Michigan State (Sept. 2) and at South Alabama (Sept. 23).
