Field Hockey Receives National Academic Honors

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – The Central Michigan field hockey program earned several academic accolades from the National Field Hockey Coaches Association.

Four Chippewas were named a Scholar of Distinction, a total of 19 were named to the National Academic Squad, and CMU received the National Academic Team Award.

Scholars of Distinction are those student-athletes with a cumulative grade point average of 3.90 or higher through the fall, 2020 semeter. CMU's Caroline Beairsto, Lauren Buffington, Hannah Havrilla and Megan Stockreef were among the 250 field hockey player from across the nation so honored.

That quartet along with 15 of their teammates earned a spot on the National Academic Squad, which comprises players who carry a 3.30 cumulative grade point average. CMU's Taryn Damm, Alli Huddleson and Anna Riesenberg were so honored for the fourth-consecutive season.

Also named to the squad from CMU were Beairsto, Buffington, Havrilla and Stockreef along with Katie Biglin, Keelin Broeker, Grace Gagliardi, Samantha Glapinski, Emily Maloney, Katie Maxim, Ashlyn Norris, Alice O'Hagan, Emma Obermiller, BobbiMarie Parker, Avery Periard and Rachel Ruttenberg.

The National Academic Team Award goes to programs that posted a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher during the fall semester.
