Lacrosse Drops Rematch With Marquette

Chippewas open MAC play at home on Sunday vs. Detroit Mercy
MILWAUKEE – Marquette jumped on Central Michigan early and never let up on Friday as the Golden Eagles handed the Chippewas a 15-4 nonconference lacrosse loss at Marquette's Valley Fields.
CMU (2-2) trailed 7-1 at halftime and was down 10-1 six minutes into the second half.
"I think it was just a matter of confidence and the team that played today was not the team that's been at practice this week," CMU coach Sara Tisdale said. "Marquette definitely wanted it way more than we did today."
Tyra Prince scored two goals and Hannah Potter and Courtney Burke had one each for CMU. Chippewas goalkeeper Sierra Savage made 15 saves. The Golden Eagles finished with a 41-17 advantage in shots.
The Chippewas were coming off a 12-11 overtime win over Oregon on Sunday, a signature win for the program. CMU beat the Golden Eagles, 11-10, two weeks ago in its season opener.
"We had a great practice (Thursday) night when we got here and everything's been clicking this week," Tisdale said. "I thought we had an opportunity to build on the momentum coming out of Oregon. Unfortunately, we weren't able to pick up where we left off.
"This is the first time we've played an opponent twice in a season in our program's history. It's going to give us a lot to think about and learn from when we go into Sunday. Today was mental, so I think for us it's getting ourselves in the right spot and we're ready to compete."
The Chippewas are scheduled to entertain Detroit Mercy on Sunday (4 p.m.) in their Mid-American Conference opener at the CMU Soccer/Lacrosse Complex.
