MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. -- The Central Michigan soccer team fell, 2-1, to Ball State on Sunday in a Mid-American Conference match at the CMU Soccer Complex.
Â
Ball State outshot the Chippewas 14-3. CMU is 3-5-0, 0-2-0; Ball State is 3-4-1, 1-0-1.
Â
"I think (Ball State) controlled the tempo, they possessed the ball very well and caused us a lot of problems." CMU coach Jeremy Groves said. "It's a game where we didn't play necessarily great, but we still could've got something from it. It's disappointing we didn't perform to our level, so we'll just get back on the training ground on Tuesday."
Â
Gaelle Wells scored in the 13th minute for Central Michigan, assisted by Jaelyn Dobrowolski. It was her team-high third goal of the season.
Â
Ball State's Chelcy Ralph answered in the 20th minute to tie it and then Grace Alsop scored in the 55th minute to the Cardinals in front for good.
Â
Central Michigan goalkeeper Allison LaPointe made five saves. Seven of the Cardinals' shots were on goal to the Chippewas' one.
Â
"Unfortunately, it's one of those days where we didn't have a great performance and we got punished for it, but we'll be back on Thursday and be ready to go," Groves said.
Â
The Chippewas will be back on their home field Thursday, Sept. 30 (7 p.m.) for a MAC match with Northern Illinois, 4-6-0, 1-1-0.
