CMU Women 4th In 11-Team Field At Rocket Classic

PORT CLINTON, Ohio – Ashley Goh shot 75-78 – 153 to lead the Central Michigan women's golf team on Monday during the opening day of the Rocket Classic at Catawba Island Club.

Goh, who was the medalist last week in CMU's victory at the Shirley Spork EMU Invitational, stands at 9-over par and is tied for seventh place in the 58-player field.

Goh, who made a tournament-high six birdies on Monday, is seven shots behind the leader, Leigha Devine of Rutgers. Devine shot a 2-over 74-72 – 146.

The Chippewas posted a 318 team score in Monday's opening round and followed with a second-round 309 for a 627 total. CMU stands in fourth place, two shots behind third-place Toledo, the host team.

Rutgers leads the tournament after shooting 305-299 -- 604. The Scarlet Knights lead second-place Akron by seven shots.

The field includes six Mid-American Conference teams. The Chippewas, the defending champions, made a combined 15 birdies on Monday, ranking second behind Akron (21). The final round is scheduled for Tuesday at 9 a.m.

Five Chippewas are in the top 22. Claudia Salvador is 11^th after shooting 80-75 – 155; Padgett Chitty is tied for 17^th after shooting 80-79 – 159; and Casilda Allendesalazar is tied for 22^nd after shooting 83-77 – 160. CMU's Rachel Kauflin is tied for 43^rd after shooting 84-85 – 169.
