YPSILANTI, Mich. – Ashley Goh set one record and tied another in leading the Central Michigan women's golf team to an outstanding day on Monday at the Shirley Spork EMU Invitational at Eagle Crest Golf Club.
Goh tied the program record with a 3-under par 69 in the opening round and then posted an even-par 72 in the second round for a 36-hole 141 total.
Goh's 141 is the lowest for 36 holes in program history, eclipsing the 143 that Zoe Vartyan recorded at the 2021 Mid-American Challenge. Her first-round 69 tied Bria Colosky for the best round by a Chippewa. Colosky recorded a 69 during the 2018 Spring Break Shootout.
Goh's blistering start sparked the Chippewas to a first-round 302; they followed in the afternoon with a 295 for a 597 total and stand in first place, eight shots ahead of second-place Bowling Green (605).
The 10-team field includes six Mid-American Conference schools. The final round of the 54-hole stroke-play event is scheduled for Tuesday at 9 a.m.
Goh leads the tournament by four shots over Bowling Green's MacKenzie Moore (74-71—145).
Three other CMU players are in the top 10 in the 63-player field. Padgett Chitty (73-76—149) is tied for seventh, while Casilda Allendesalazar (81-70 – 151) and Rachel Kauflin (73-78—151) are tied for ninth.
Kauflin is playing the tournament as an individual and her score does not count toward the team total.
Allendesalazar's 70 – which equals her career best -- ties for the second-lowest score in program history. It also tied for the second-lowest round in the tournament behind Goh's opening-round 69.
CMU's Claudia Salvador (79-77 – 156) is tied for 23rd and Mackenzie Baustad (87-80 – 167) is tied for 54th.
Vartyan, also playing as an individual, is tied for 23rd after shooting 80-76 – 156, and CMU's Ashley Liles is 61st after shooting 83-90 – 173.
