Central Michigan duo now has the opportunity to earn CSC Academic All-America honors.
GREENWOOD, Ind.—Two Central Michigan football players—senior defensive lineman Robi Stuart and sophomore offensive lineman Brayden Swartout—were named to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District football team, the organization announced earlier this week. Both players are now eligible for Academic All-America honors.
A Saginaw, Mich. native who attended Nouvel Catholic Central High School, Stuart has started in nine of 11 games on the year at defensive tackle and contributed 25 tackles (11 solo), four tackles for loss, one sack, and a quarterback hurry. In his five-year collegiate career, Stuart has accumulated 100 total tackles, (51) solo), 17.5 tackles for loss for 66 yards, and 6.5 sacks in 49 total games played.
A two-time All-MAC selection, Stuart has also been named a semifinalist for the William V. Campbell Trophy, awarded annually by the National Football Foundation to the nation's top scholar-athlete in college football. He is a three-time Academic All-MAC honoree who holds a bachelor of science degree with a major in neuroscience and minor in psychology. Stuart is currently pursuing a master's degree in neuroscience. In 2021, Stuart received the Michael R. Sadler Division I Scholar-Athlete of the Year Award, given by the NFF-Michigan Chapter. The award is named in honor of the late Michigan State punter, a four-time Academic All-American, who was killed in a car accident in 2016.
An Essexville, Mich. native, Swartout has started all 11 games at right tackle this year for the Chippewas. He has started 12 consecutive games dating back to his first career start at the Sun Bowl on December 31, 2021. Swartout, who attended Garber High School, has been a key player on an offensive line that has allowed just 26 sacks on the year.
Formerly, the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), the CSC made changes to its national program this year with the minimum grade-point average rising from 3.00 to 3.50 and the elimination of all-district voting, meaning the maximum number of Central Michigan qualified players rautomatically earn all-district accolades and advance to the national ballot for the prestigious CSC Academic All-America honor. The national honors will see voted athletes receive spots on first, second, and third-teams this year.
Central Michigan (4-7, 3-4 MAC) will travel to Eastern Michigan (7-4, 4-3 MAC) for a Friday game at Rynearson Stadium in Ypsilanti, Mich. Kickoff for CMU's final regular season game is Noon ET for a nationally televised game on CBS Sports Network.
