Women's Basketball Drops Opener at Cancun Challenge

CANCUN, Mexico – The Central Michigan women's basketball team dropped a 64-33 loss to unbeaten West Virginia on Thursday in the Chippewas' opener at the Cancun Challenge.
The Chippewas (0-5) are scheduled to play Tulane (3-1) in the Challenge on Friday (9 p.m.).
Freshman guard Bridget Utberg scored eight points to lead the Chippewas.
Madisen Smith scored 12 points to lead West Virginia (5-0), which jumped to an 8-0 lead less than five minutes into the game and increased the advantage to 30-10 with under four minutes to play in the first half.
