Caves Earns Weekly MAC Award

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – Central Michigan's Bryan Caves has been named the co-Mid-American Conference Wrestler of the Week after his performance in the Journeyman Collegiate Duals in New Orleans.
Caves, a redshirt freshman from Port Byron, Ill., went 2-1 against a rugged field in the event at the New Orleans Convention Center.
He opened the event with a 4-1 victory over Brandon Whitman of 21st-ranked North Carolina and closed with a pin in 3:36 of Oregon State's Ryan Reyes. In between, he dropped a 17-6 decision to Seth Nevills of Penn State, which is ranked No. 1 and is the defending national champion.
Caves shared the award with Northern Illinois 165-pounder Izzak Olejnik, who posted a 9-1 major decision victory over a ranked opponent in the Huskies' MAC dual victory over Kent State.
