Wrestlers Run Win Streak To 9, Remain Unbeaten In MAC

EDINBORO, Pa. – The Central Michigan wrestling team won eight matches, bookending it with bonus-point wins, in topping Edinboro, 26-9, on Friday in a Mid-American Conference dual at the Fighting Scots' McComb Fieldhouse.
The Chippewas ran their dual-meet win streak to nine in improving to 10-2, 5-0 MAC. They are ranked 20th in the InterMat national dual-meet rankings and third in the National Wrestling Coaches Association mid-major poll.
The Chippewas are scheduled to wrestle a MAC dual at Kent State on Sunday (noon). Edinboro is 2-8, 1-5.
CMU's Brock Bergelin (125 pounds) opened the dual with a major-decision victory and teammate Matt Stencel closed it with a 12-4 major.
In between the Chippewas got decision victories from Vince Perez (133), Corbyn Munson (149), Johnny Lovett (157), Tracy Hubbard (165), Bret Fedewa (174) and Ben Cushman (184).
• For Bergelin, a senior who broke into the InterMat national rankings this week at No. 33, it was his fifth straight victory and he scored bonus points for the third time in his last four matches. It was his third major of the season as he improved to 16-7, 5-1 against MAC competition.
• Stencel, who is ranked eighth, posted his second consecutive major and improved to 12-3, 6-0 in the MAC. It was the 10th time in his 12 wins that he has scored bonus points.
• Cushman snapped a three-match losing streak in improving to 9-12.
• Munson, who is ranked 26th, ran his win streak to seven and won for the 13th time in his last 14 matches. He leads the Chippewas with 20 wins against just four losses.
• Lovett, who is ranked 16th, won his ninth straight match.
• Hubbard won for the seventh time in his last eight matches.
• Fedewa bounced back from a tight 3-1 loss to Ohio last weekend, posting his third win in his last four matches and improving to 17-11.
• The Chippewas two losses came at 141 and 197. Dresden Simon, who is ranked 10th, saw his win streak end at eight matches as he was pinned for the first time this season.
