Taverna, Paupore lead Cross Country at Bradley Pink Classic

Four Chippewa men finish in the top 20 for a first place team finish
PEORIA, Ill. — The Central Michigan men's and women's cross country programs both made the podiums on Friday at the Bradley Pink Classic, highlighted by the men's team first place team finish of 17 teams in the Men's White Race 8k.
The women's team participated in the Women's White Race and the Women's Red Race, both 6ks, to each finish 3rd. The white race was comprised of 19 teams and the red invitational race made up a field of 32 teams.
Joey Taverna was the first CMU runner to cross the finish line in Peoria. He placed third with a personal best time of 25:20.10 in a field of 178 finishers.
Shortly behind was Blake Chipman, who finished 6th in 25:25.10, just .5 seconds shy of his personal record.
Also finishing in the top 20 for the CMU men were Ethan Leitner (14th), Aiden Smith (16th) and Gabe Goosen (18th). Leitner and Smith both ran a personal best.
Emily Paupore placed 7th in the red race, which was comprised of 249 finishers, in 21:09.00. Anya Turner finished 20th while Jessie Gibbins finished 39th with a time of 21:59.50, a new personal best.
In the women's white race, Annie Bennett led the CMU women with a 16th-place finish. Emma Janesak was 28th and Chesney Wilke finished 30th.
The Chippewas will conclude the regular cross country season on Friday, Oct. 20 at Eastern Michigan's EMU Fall Classic before heading to the Mid-American Conference Championship at Bowling Green on Oct. 28.
