Allison LaPoint adds six saves to finish in a tie for fourth all-time in single-season saves (84)
MUNCIE, Ind. — Central Michigan Soccer dropped its final matchup of the 2023 season Thursday evening in Mid-American Conference play at Ball State, 2-0.
Â
"Really frustrated for our team," Head Coach Jeremy Groves said. "We play really well in spells and just struggle to find the back of the net."
Â
Four different players posted a shot on-goal in the contest, with the strongest scoring chance on a run capped by Cece Mernatti (St. Clair Shores, Mich. / Lakeview) and Jaelyn Dobrowolski (Traverse City, Mich. / TC West) as Mernatti fired upon the Ball State keeper to set up an open rebound attempt for Dobrowolski that just curved outside the left post.
Â
"We did a lot of good things well today, like last Sunday," Groves continued: "Our quality at times today was good, these are games that we should get something out of. Had some very good passages of play."
Â
Claudia Muessig (Paw Paw, Mich. / Paw Paw) tied Elizabeth Chlystun (Zionsville, Ind. / Zionsville Community) to lead the Chippewas with two of the team's six shots on goal including the first of the game for either squad just 90 seconds in. Her second came after a 74th minute free kick just outside the 18-yard box.
Â
Allison LaPoint (Royal Oak, Mich. / Shrine Catholic) took multiple steps up the all-time single season saves list to a tie for fourth with 84 stops on the season, passing her own mark of 80 from the 2021 spring season in the process. The redshirt-junior came into the day with 78 which tied for eighth.
Â
"It was good to have Allison back in goal this year; she came up big time and time again," Groves offered on the feat. "I think she will be the first to admit that she wouldn't like to be called into action this much."
