Baseball Second in MAC Coaches Poll

Chippewas open the season on Friday at Baylor.
MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – The Central Michigan baseball team finished second in the poll of Mid-American Conference coaches. The poll was released today.
CMU opens the season this weekend in Waco, Texas with a three-game nonconference series against Baylor. The opener is set for Friday (4 p.m.).
The Chippewas finished with 107 points and three-first place votes. Ball State was first with 115 points and five first-place votes. Ball State was selected by five of the league's 11 coaches to win the conference tournament, while CMU was selected by two.
"We are very excited to kick off the new season," said Jordan Bischel, who is entering his fifth season as the Chippewas' coach. "While having a lot of new faces in the program obviously creates some uncertainty, it also leads to tremendous opportunities for individuals to take on larger roles and excitement to see how we compete as a group early on."
CMU is the defending MAC Tournament champion; the Cardinals are the defending regular season champions. The Chippewas finished 43-19, 30-7 MAC in 2022.
It marked their third consecutive 40-win season. CMU has won 132 games over its past three full seasons (the 2020 season was shortened to 17 games because of COVID).
Kent State finished third in the poll, followed by Toledo, Miami (Ohio), Ohio, Western Michigan, Eastern Michigan, Bowling Green, Northern Illinois and Akron. Kent State, Toledo and Miami each received one first-place vote.
