RIO VERDE, Ariz. – Casilda Allendesalazar shot an even-par 72 to lead the Central Michigan women's golf team on Saturday during the second round of the Rio Verde Invitational on the Quail Run Course at Rio Verde Country Club.
Allendesalazar, who opened with a 1-over 73 on Friday, is tied for third place with a 145 total, one shot behind co-leaders Emma McMyler of Xavier and Daphne Van Son of Akron.
The Chippewas posted a 299 team score on Saturday, giving them a 36-hole 607 total which ties them for fifth place with Mid-American Conference foe Ball State in the 18-team field.
CMU and Ball State are three shots behind another MAC squad, Akron, and ahead of four other MAC schools: 11th-place Western Michigan, the tournament host; 15th-place Bowling Green; and Eastern Michigan and Ohio, which are tied for 17th.
Xavier shot 289 on Saturday and leads the tournament with a 582 total. Defending champion Kennesaw State (591) is second.
CMU's Ashley Goh shot a 4-over 76 on Saturday and is tied for 10th with a 148 total. Goh opened on Friday with a 72 and entered Saturday's second round in third place. Allendesalazar was tied for fourth place at the start of play on Saturday.
Also for the Chippewas on Saturday, Padgett Chitty shot a 2-over 74 – a nine-shot improvement over her first-round score – and is tied for 62nd with a 157 total; Rachel Kauflin shot a 5-over 77 and is alone in 66th place at 158; and Zoe Vartyan carded an 81 and is tied for 82nd at 163.
The field comprises 93 players.
The third and final round of the 54-hole event is scheduled for Sunday (10:30 a.m. ET).
