SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Central Michigan had five top-eight finishes at the Notre Dame Meyo Invitational Friday and Saturday in South Bend, Indiana.
Â
Ten teams, including Notre Dame, Michigan and Michigan State, competed in the event and CMU collected four top-eight finishes, two by Hayley Manners.
Â
"We made a lot of progress," CMU Director of Track & Field/Cross Country Jenny Swieton said. "There were a lot of things people did really well this weekend. This is the time of year where people are getting really tired, academically and athletically. The training has got us pretty fatigued, so we're just trying to see what kind of performances we can get even if we are a little tired."
Â
Manners led the Chippewas with a second-place finish in the long jump and fifth place in the triple jump. Her runner-up jump in the long jump measured 19 feet, 1 ½ inches (5.83 meters) and her best triple jump measured 40-1 ¼ (12.22 meters).Â
Â
Also for CMU, Sarah Daniel placed eighth in the long jump, and Mohogany Wells finished eighth among elite competition, including professionals, in the weight throw.
Â
The Chippewas' Emily Paupore finished second in the 5,000-meter run in 16:57.28.
Â
"We handled a little bit more pressure than we've dealt with this season because obviously this is a bigger meet with bigger schools and more competition," Swieton said. "I think the competition was a little bit closer to the level we will get a the MAC meet. There were a lot of MAC teams at this meet, so that was helpful.
Â
"I think anytime we can get into a meet that is a little more competitive, and we just get a little more nervous for, that's good because that helps us get more prepared for the MAC meet. We can't just prepare for that physically. We have toprepare for that tactically and mentally."
Â
The Chippewas will compete next on Friday, Feb. 10, at the Grand Valley Big Meet in Allendale.
Â
The MAC Indoor Championships are on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 24-25, hosted by Bowling Green State University.Â
