Coons Finishes 1-0-1 to Lead Men's Golf on Day 1 at Match Play

Chippewas close Florida event on Tuesday against Western Kentucky
DADE CITY, Fla. – The Central Michigan men's golf team dropped its two matches on Monday on the opening day of the Ball State Earl Yestingmeier Match Play at Lake Jovita Golf & Country Club.
The Chippewas, who are seeded eighth in the eight-team field, are set to take on third-seed Western Kentucky on Tuesday (8:30 a.m.).
It is the second event of the spring season for the Chippewas, who are in their first year of varsity competition after a 37-year hiatus and feature an all-freshmen lineup.
The Chippewas opened with a 4-1-1 loss to top-seeded Ball State and then fell to fifth-seeded Eastern Michigan by the same total.
Orlando Coons posted the Chippewas' win against the Cardinals as he defeated Ali Khan, 4 and 3. CMU's Ethan Jaehn drew with Griffin Hare.
CMU's Jeffrey Andrus lost, 3 and 1, to Kash Bellar; Philippe Yturralde lost, 1 down, to Joey Ranieri; Nicholas Kilgore fell, 1 down, to Carter Smith; and Easton Phillips dropped a 6 and 5 decision to Colin Nasser.
Phillips rebounded to post a 4 and 3 victory over Nathaniel Gray Lamont in the Chippewas' battle with Eastern Michigan. Coons played Victor Caliguri to a draw.
Also for the Chippewas, Yturralde fell, 2 and 1, to Cam Kellett; Andrus dropped a 3 and 2 decision to Patrick Deardorff; Jaehn fell, 3 and 2, to Logan Graf; and Kilgore bowed, 1 down, to Sam Yono.
