Yturralde, Shin Lead Men's Golf on Day 1 at Kemper Lakes

KILDEER, Ill. – Philippe Yturralde opened with a 2-over 74 and then shot a 6-over 78 to lead the Central Michigan men's golf team on Monday during the opening day of the Kemper Lakes Intercollegiate at Kemper Lakes Golf Club.
The final round of the 54-hole event is scheduled for Tuesday (9:30 a.m. ET).
Yturralde is tied for 20th in the 78-player field at 8-over 152. Teammate Benjamin Shin is one shot back at 9-over 153 and tied for 24th. Shin opened with a 6-over 78 and then posted a 3-over 75 in the second round.
Yturralde and Shin led the Chippewas to an opening round 309 and a second-round 317. At 50-over par 626, CMU is in ninth place in the 12-team field, two shots behind eighth-place Morehead State.
Also for CMU on Monday, Dimitri Protopapas shot 78-82 – 160, Awesome Burnett shot 79-83 – 162, and Édouard Laflamme shot 81-82 – 163. The Chippewas' Edward Beehag, playing as an individual, shot 83-86 – 168.
Protopapas is tied for 47th at 16-over, Burnett is tied for 56th at 18-over, Laflamme is tied for 59th at 19-over, and Beehag is 69th at 24-over.
Drake and South Dakota are tied for the tournament lead at 8-over 584. The Bulldogs opened with an even-par 288 and then posted an 8-over 296 in the second round. South Dakota posted twin 292s. They lead by 15 shots over third-place Belmont, the host team.
Drake's Jake Weissenburger leads the tournament at 7-under 137. He opened with a 7-under 65, the best score of the day, and then shot an even-par 72 in the second round.
South Dakota teammates Jack Holtz and Joe Rohlwing are tied for second at 4-under.
