Chippewas finish T9 in 16-team event
MUNCIE, Ind. – The Central Michigan men's golf team closed with a 12-over-par 292 team score to finish tied for ninth place in the 16-team Earl Yestingmeier Invitational at Delaware Country Club.
The Chippewas finished at 27-over 867 and tied for ninth with Evansville. Butler closed with a 7-under 273 for a 12-under 828 and a 16-shot victory over runner-up Ball State, the host team.
CMU's Benjamin Shin and Awesome Burnett finished among a group tied for 29th at 5-over 215 in the 96-player field. Burnett, a junior in his first year at CMU, closed with a 1-over 71; Shin, a freshman, closed with a 3-over 73.
Also for the Chippewas, Édouard Laflamme finished T44 at 9-over 219, Dimitri Protopapas finished T56 at 11-over 221, and Philippe Yturralde finished 89th at 18-over 228. CMU's Edward Beehag, playing as an individual, finished T67 at 13-over 223.
Laflamme and Protopapas, both freshmen, shot 2-over 72 and 6-over 76, respectively, in Sunday's final round, while Yturralde closed with an 8-over 78. Beehag carded a 6-over 76.
Butler's Logan Sutto closed with a 3-under 67 to capture medalist honors at 7-under 203. He topped second-round leader Luke Johnston of Ball State, who closed with a 1-under 69 to finish at 6-under 204.
It was the second tournament of the fall for the CMU men, who finished 12th in a 14-team field two weeks ago at the Joe Feaganes Invitational in Huntington, W. Va.
CMU next goes to the Oct. 5-6 Kemper Lakes Invitational at Kemper Lakes Golf Club in Kildeer, Ill. The event is hosted by Belmont.
