OWENS CROSS ROADS, Ala. – Casilda Allendesalazar shot a 3-under 69 in the second round on Monday to lead the Central Michigan women's golf team at the Huntsville.org Intercollegiate on the Highlands Course at Hampton Cove.
Allendesalazar opened with a 4-over 76 on Monday morning. She is tied for third place in the 64-player field, three shots behind leader Siarra Stout of Lipscomb.
Allendesalazar's 69 ties for the second-best round in program history. She set the record with a 4-under 68 a month ago at the Falcon Florida Classic in Lakewood Ranch, Fla. Her 145 ties for the fourth-lowest 36-hole score in program history.
Allendesalazar's second-round 69 marked the seventh time in 22 rounds in the 2022-23 season that the sophomore from Spain has shot par or better. Five of those par-or-better rounds have come in her last eight loops.
CMU's Claudia Salvador, playing as an individual, is tied for fifth at 146 after her opening-round 76 and her second-round 70, a career best.
CMU opened with a 304 team total and followed with a second-round 303 for a 607 total. The Chippewas are in seventh place, three shots behind sixth-place Austin Peay and eight back of fifth-place Samford, the host school.
Tournament-leader Lipscomb shot 296-288 – 582 for an eight-shot lead over second-place North Alabama. Eleven teams comprise the field.
The third and final round is scheduled for 8 a.m. Tuesday.
CMU's Ashley Goh is alone in 21st place after shooting even-par 72 in the first round and a 78 in the second for a 150 total. It marked the third consecutive tournament that Goh has posted an even-par round.
Also for the Chippewas, Rachel Kauflin shot 78-77; Padgett Chitty shot 78-82; and Zoe Vartyan shot 87-79. Kauflin (155) is tied for 34th, while Chitty (160) is tied for 48th.
CMU's Zoe Vartyan, playing as an individual, is tied for 57th at 166 (87-79).
