Sending off our Graduates

Our student-athletes' biggest win
A few weeks ago, 55 of our student-athletes — representing 15 of our 16 sports — received the ultimate reward for their time, effort and dedication at Central Michigan University: a diploma. They worked incredibly hard on the court and field and in the classroom.
Â
Four of these graduates earned master's degrees and 51 earned bachelor's degrees. They represented 30 majors/fields of study across six academic colleges.
Some of these new CMU alumni will continue to play their respective sport, but most have moved on to their professional lives. They've headed off to internships, full-time jobs and other experiences that will set the stage for their professional journeys.
Â
Be sure to listen to my latest podcast, where I sat down with May graduate Lauren Buffington (field hockey) and student-athlete Garrett Navarra, a graduate student who is wrapping up his baseball career at CMU this spring. Also, check out these photos of a special graduation ceremony we held for our baseball and softball graduates, as they had competitions scheduled during their respective commencement ceremonies.
Â
I am so proud of each of our student-athlete graduates and am confident they are bound for successful futures!
Â
Spring sport success
We've had an exciting — and successful — spring sports season. Here are some highlights:
Â
Gearing up for fall
While we all cherish our Michigan summers, CMU Athletics already is in planning mode for our 2023 fall sports season.
Â
Football kicks off at Michigan State on Sept. 1, then our home opener is Sept. 9 against New Hampshire. Don't forget to mark your calendars for all of our fall football games. Details about our 2023 football season — including information about how to buy or renew season tickets — are available on our Ticket Central website.
Â
We also look forward to announcing the fall schedules for volleyball, soccer, field hockey and men's/women's cross country!

Spring sport success
We've had an exciting — and successful — spring sports season. Here are some highlights:
Â
- Baseball has had another outstanding season! The team finished second in the regular season and are now vying for its third straight MAC Tournament win and another NCAA Tournament appearance. In addition, five baseball players earned six individual all-MAC honors this week.
- Congratulations to our lacrosse team for winning its second consecutive MAC Tournament! Our team concluded its season with a 10-9 overall record after falling to No. 15 Michigan in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
- Our women's golf team had its highest MAC Championship finish in program history, closing in third place. This was highlighted by Ashley Goh tying for the best round in program history and recording the best round of any player in the three-day tournament, when she shot a final round 68.
- Men's golf closed their first season in 38 years, finishing sixth place at the MAC Men's Golf Championship. Congratulations as well to golfer Arie Jackman for winning the prestigious Michigan Medal Play Championship May 17 at the Detroit Golf Club; he now will attempt to qualify for the U.S. Open.
- Three from our track and field team are headed to the NCAA East regionals this week.
- Hannah DeMers (gymnastics) and Robi Stuart (football) were named Mid-American Conference Medal of Excellence Award winners.Â
- Softball player Kelsey Alexander was named Third Team All-Region by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association.
