Lacrosse Heads to MAC Championship Game, Defeats Kent State 18-7

MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. – For the second consecutive year, the Central Michigan Lacrosse program is headed back to the Mid-American Conference Tournament Championship game as the Chippewas defeated Kent State 18-7 Thursday afternoon at Robert Morris' Joe Walton Stadium. No. 3 seed Central Michigan advances to take on No. 1 seed and host Robert Morris on Saturday at 3 p.m. ET in the MAC Championship Game at Joe Walton Stadium.
How it Happened:
Audrey Whiteside started things off for the Chippewas as she scored the first goal at the 14:02 mark in the first. From there, the Chippewas would score five more before Kent State got their first.
The Chippewa goals in order following Whiteside's – Skye Deprado, scored three times in a row, Makenna Huhn, and Sadie Hinkle.
Kent State scored its first and only goal of the first quarter at the 3:47 mark.
In the second quarter, CMU kept the pressure on. Whiteside finished off another goal, Kelly Hoyt got in on the action, Deprado scored her fourth and Kendall Hoyt scored as well – all before Kent State would score again. The second goal for the Golden Flashes came at the 7:06 mark of the second, and that would be it for the half.
Reagan Martinsen scored the final goal of the half to give the Chippewas a 12-2 advantage at the half.
In the third quarter, Kent State scored three goals, but the Chippewas did as well to maintain their 10-goal lead. The goals in the third for CMU came from Hinkle, Sandy Edwards & Whiteside.
The final quarter brought another goal by Martinsen and two for Edwards

Skye Deprado led the offense with four goals, while Audrey Whiteside, Reagan Martinsen and Sandy Edwards each registered a hat trick. Kendall Hoyt had a goal and four assists. Sadie Hinkle had two goals and an assist, while Kelly Hoyt added a goal and commanded the draw circle with seven draw controls while Whiteside had five.
The Crucial Components:
Central Michigan assisted on eight of their goals while Kent State had none.
The draw circle was commanded by Kelly Hoyt and the Chippewas combining to win 17-12 by Kent State.
What's Next:
Central Michigan is the reigning MAC Champions in the inaugural tournament held in 2022, in Mount Pleasant, Mich. This time, however, the Chippewas are under new leadership as Head Coach Emilia Ward is searching for her first MAC Championship. Next, CMU will face Robert Morris for a rematch of the 2022 Mid-American Conference Championship game. The game will be played in Moon Township, Pa. on Saturday, May 6 at 3 p.m.
