Chippewas fans will have the unique opportunity to ride a train to and from Central Michigan’s football home opener against New Hampshire on Saturday, Sept. 9; Train to transport fans from Owosso to Mount Pleasant.
MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich.—Central Michigan football fans will have the unique opportunity to ride a train, the Maroon and Gold Express, to the Chippewas' home opener against New Hampshire on Saturday, Sept. 9. Kickoff at Kramer/Deromedi Field at Kelly/Shorts Stadium is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. ET. A complete list of details is available at this link.
The excursion will depart from Owosso, Mich. at 9 a.m. and arrive in Mount Pleasant around Noon. Upon arrival in Mount Pleasant, the train will make two stops in town: at the CMU Athletics Complex and then in downtown Mount Pleasant at Mountain Town Station (https://www.mountaintown.com/). No passengers are permitted to remain on the train after both stops in Mount Pleasant. Passengers will have time to eat and shop in downtown Mount Pleasant. Central Michigan Athletics teamed with the Mount Pleasant Area Convention & Visitors Bureau and Steam Railroading Institute to bring CMU fans this exciting opportunity.
"We are extremely excited to bring this experience to our fans," Central Michigan Zyzelewski Family Associate Vice President/Director of Athletics Amy Folan said. "This is a fantastic opportunity for our fanbase to experience a Central Michigan football game from a different perspective by riding a train to and from the game. It will be a one-of-a-kind day that our fans will never forget. I urge everyone to reserve your seats now."
"The Mount Pleasant Area Convention & Visitors Bureau is happy to help CMU and SRI bring the first-ever Maroon and Gold Express to Mount Pleasant," Executive Director of the Mt. Pleasant Area CVB Chris Rowley said. "We hope this can be done annually and provide a fun way to experience a CMU Football game."
Fans can catch the train at the Steam Railroading Institute in Owosso, located at 405 South Washington Street, Owosso, MI 48867. Parking is provided at the facility. To purchase a ride on the Maroon & Gold Express, individuals may purchase their tickets off the Steam Railroading Institute website at this link.
The Steam Railroading Institute is dedicated to educating the public about steam era railroading in Michigan and the Great Lakes Region. This includes the preservation of the skills and technology for maintaining steam locomotives by operating steam era equipment and providing the experience of steam locomotives in actual operation.
