
Lovett, Cramer Reach Semifinals at Midlands Championships

Nine CMU wrestlers remain alive; Chippewas sixth in 25-team field
HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill. – Nine Central Michigan wrestlers remain alive after day one of the Midlands Championships, hosted by Northwestern, at NOW Arena.
Two Chippewas, Johnny Lovett and Alex Cramer, went unbeaten on Sunday and will wrestle in the semifinals of their respective championship brackets on Monday.
Seven other Chippewas will wrestle on Monday in the consolation bracket of their respective weight class.
Wrestling begins on Monday at noon (ET). The final session of the prestigious two-day tournament is scheduled to begin at 7:05 p.m. Monday (ET). The final session features the place matches in all 10 weight classes.
Lovett, the No. 2 seed at 157 pounds, will wrestle sixth-seeded Dylan Evans of Pitt in a semifinal bout on Monday. Cramer, the No. 3 seed at 174, will wrestle No. 2-seed Lorenzo Norman of Stanford on Monday.
Lovett went 2-0, winning both matches by major decision, on Sunday; Cramer went 3-0.
Lovett opened with an 11-3 win over Cade Wirnsberger of Bucknell and then defeated JT Chance of George Mason, 17-5. Cramer posted a 19-3 technical fall victory over Jake Evans of Northern Illinois, and then defeated Michigan's Connor Owens, 5-2, and Myles Takats of Bucknell, 6-4.
CMU's Sean Spidle (133), Mason Shrader (149), Tyler Swiderski (165), Mason Alessio (174), Adrien Cramer (184), Luke Cochran (197) and Bryan Caves (285) will wrestle on Monday in consolation brackets.
