Yturralde Tied for 11th, Chippewas 7th Through Round One of MAC Championship

Chippewas card 297 (+9) on first day of three-day Championship tournament
WESTFIELD, Ind. – Philippe Yturralde shot 1-under 71 to tie for 11th on Friday, leading Central Michigan Men's Golf, after the first round of the MAC Men's Golf Championship at the Club at Chatham Hills.
Competing in its second MAC Championship in the modern era of the program, CMU is 7th of 9 teams after the first of three rounds, carding 297 (+9) as a squad. The Chippewas lead in par scoring with a total of 59.
Playing in the No. 1 position for CMU, Yturralde, a sophomore, fired 1-under for eight holes of the front nine, with the exception of hole four, where he shot par.
Closely behind Yturralde is senior Arie Jackman, who finished the day even to tie for 13th. Jackman shot all even through the front nine for 15 total pars, leading the field.
Jeffrey Andrus, who made a top 10 finish at the 2023 MAC Championship as a freshman, sits tied for 33rd, having shot 76. Easton Philipps (T39) carded 78, while freshman Trey Rusthoven (T42) shot 79.
Leading the hunt for a MAC title after round one are Ball State and Miami (Ohio), which shot 283 (-5) as a squad. Toledo's Barend Botha leads the individual leaderboard after carding a 5-under 67 through the first 18.
With two more rounds to play through Saturday and Sunday, CMU will play the next 18 on Saturday at 9 a.m., with the final round scheduled for the same time on Sunday.
