The Farmington senior, who holds the CMU Steeplechase record, capped her career on Saturday.
LEXINGTON, Ky. — The 2024 outdoor track & field season concluded for Central Michigan on Saturday following the 3,000m steeplechase at the NCAA Division I East First Round at the University of Kentucky, where Farmington senior Anya Turner capped her career in the maroon and gold.
Racing in the first heat of the region's fastest at the Wildcats' Outdoor Track & Field Facility, Turner placed 12th in her heat and 37th overall in the event with a time of 10:45.54.
Turner, a redshirt senior from Farmington, Mich., placed 2nd in the 3000m steeplechase at the 2024 Mid-American Conference Outdoor Championships on May 10. With the time of 10:13.78, she holds the CMU program record in the event.
"I am so proud of Anya and all she has accomplished in her career," said Director of Track & Field/Cross Country Jenny Swieton. "She went from an 11:30 steeplechaser to a two-time first round qualifier, a school record holder and a MAC runner-up. It's been so great to watch her grow and have fun along the way; she's shown all of our new faces within the program what is possible."
Turner ran in the NCAA East Regional in 2023 in Jacksonville, Fla, alongside Emily Paupore, who redshirted the 2024 outdoor season. Turner placed 43rd in 10:59.95.
Turner spent five seasons with the Chippewas and graduated with her Master's Degree in May.
Alongside the CMU steeplechase record, her name has been etched into the Chippewa Top 10 lists for the outdoor 1500m, outdoor 800m, indoor mile, indoor 3000m, indoor 800m, and is a part of the record-holding indoor distance medley relay squad alongside Paupore, Peyton Korytkowski and Natalie Newcombe, all accomplished in the 2023-2024 seasons alone.
