CMU Student-Athletes Complete Another Successful Year in the Classroom in 2023-24

Chippewas achieve a cumulative 3.23 grade point average; 69 percent (313 out of 451) of student-athletes earn a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher.
MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich.— Once again, Central Michigan University student-athletes completed a another successful 2023-24 year in the classroom as the Chippewas registered their 51st consecutive semester in which the group collectively achieved an overall grade point average of 3.0 or higher.
"Every year, we take pride in the achievements and accomplishments of all of our student-athletes," Zyzelewski Family Associate Vice President/Director of Athletics Amy Folan said. "It is Central Michigan Athletics' primary goal to develop young men and women who exemplify the definition of a student-athlete in its truest form. The department's mission also includes providing an authentic environment in which student-athletes can thrive both academically and athletically."

Student-athletes graduated combining December 2023 and May 2024 ceremonies. Of those 90 student-athletes, 67 graduated with a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or above, 42 graduated with a 3.5 grade point average, and three graduated with a perfect 4.0 grade point average.

A variety of CMU's academic accomplishments include:
- Central Michigan student-athletes concluded the spring 2024 semester with a 3.24 cumulative grade point average.
- At the end of the spring 2024 semester, 313 student-athletes achieved cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher, 217 student-athletes achieved a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher, and 61 had a 4.0 GPA.
- At the conclusion of the spring 2024 semester, the CMU men's cross country and gymnastics squads tied for the highest team cumulative GPA of 3.68.
- This past spring, field hockey posted the highest semester team GPA with a 3.73.
- Eleven out of Central Michigan's 16 sports programs posted a team cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher.
- The CMU wrestling program registered the highest team grade point average increase from the 2023 fall semester to the 2024 spring semester (+0.53).
- Ninety student-athletes graduated from Central Michigan University combining December 2023 and May 2024. Of the 90 total December and May graduates, 67 notched cumulative GPAs of 3.0 or higher, 42 earned a 3.5 or higher, and three earned a 4.0 GPA.
