Paupore, Turner honored as CSC Academic All-District for second consecutive year
GREENWOOD, Ind. — Three student-athletes from Central Michigan's Track & Field and Cross Country Programs have earned Academic All-District honors from College Sports Communicators for the 2023-24 academic year and athletic seasons, the organization announced on Tuesday.
Among the honorees are CMU's Emily Paupore, Payton Sabourin and Anya Turner.
Paupore, a redshirt junior from Negaunee, Mich., made history in the fall of 2023 as the first cross country MAC Champion for the Chippewas' women's program, setting the CMU 5k record along the way. She went on to win a MAC Indoor Track & Field title in the 5000m in February, where she set the CMU indoor 5000m, mile, 3000m and with her teammates, the distance medley relay records. She did not compete in the 2024 outdoor season. Paupore, studying elementary education, has a 3.92 grade-point average and is in consideration for CSC Academic All-America honors.
A graduate transfer who celebrated her final collegiate season with the Chippewas, Sabourin left her mark on the program in the 2024 outdoor season. The Chatham, Ontario native set the program record in the 400 meter hurdles and placed second at the 2024 MAC Outdoor Championships in the event, for which she earned Second Team All-MAC honors. Sabourin holds a 4.0 GPA as she pursues a Master of Science in Administration degree for General Administration.
After five seasons representing Chippewa Cross Country/Track and Field, Turner capped her collegiate career at the NCAA Outdoor East Preliminaries in Lexington, Ky. in May for the 3000m Steeplechase. She won a silver medal in the event at the 2024 MAC Outdoor Championships, where she also broke the program record in the event. Turner earned a bronze medal in the mile at the 2024 MAC Indoor Championships and also holds a share of CMU's distance medley relay record. Turner, who hails from Farmington, Michigan, attained a Master of Science degree in Exercise Physiology in May. She maintained a 3.52 GPA.
