Chippewa Wrestlers Drop Dual Opener at Indiana

Shrader, Fockler earn wins; CMU returns to the mat on Sunday at Bellarmine

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Central Michigan dropped eight matches on Friday in falling to Indiana, 33-7, in a nonconference wrestling dual at the Hoosiers' Assembly Hall.

It was the Chippewas' first dual of the season. They go to Bellarmine in Louisville, Ky. for a nonleague dual on Sunday (2 p.m.). Indiana improved to 3-1.

CMU's victories came from Mason Shrader (157 pounds) and Aidan Fockler (285).

Shrader, a redshirt senior who is ranked 28^th nationally by InterMat and 24^th by FloWrestling, posted an 11-5 victory over No. 31 Bryce Lowery. Lowery got the first takedown of the bout to put Shrader into a 3-0 hole, but Shrader notched an escape and then took the lead, 4-3, with a takedown late in the first period.

Shrader dominated from there, getting a second-period takedown and then a reversal in the third period in improving to 9-2 on the season.

Fockler, a sophomore, posted a 15-2 major decision win over Caleb Marzolino to improve to 8-4 on the year. It was Fockler's first career dual-meet bout.

Fockler dominated from the outset and highlighted the match with three takedowns and he finished with a riding-time point.
