Chippewas make late surge with bonus-point victories, but Bulls capture decisive final bout
MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. β Buffalo won six of 10 matches, including the decisive final bout of the day, in handing Central Michigan a 19-14 Mid-American Conference dual meet loss at McGuirk Arena.

The loss wrapped up a 1-1 weekend for the Chippewas, who defeated Ohio, 23-10, on Friday. CMU is 7-5, 1-2 and goes to SIU Edwardsville on Friday, Feb. 6, for a MAC dual. Buffalo improved to 3-9, 2-3. It was Buffalo's second victory in 31 all-time meetings with the Chippewas and first since 2019.

Buffalo won four of the first five matches on Sunday, including at 157 where No. 25/29 Kaleb Burgess posted an 11-3 major decision victory over No. 22/26 Mason Shrader, extending the Bulls' lead to 13-3.

CMU then went to work, winning three of the next four matches and scoring bonus points in two of those wins to draw the Chippewas within two points, 16-14, and set the stage for the dramatic final bout of the meet at 285.

Buffalo's Magnus Bibla upset No. 30/unranked Bryan Caves, 4-2, to clinch the dual.

The Chippewas got decision wins from Andrew Austin (133) and Chandler Amaker (165) and major decision wins from Wyatt Ferguson (184) and Luke Cochran (197).
