Solid and Consistent: Women's Golf Tied for 5th Heading Into Final Round in Arizona

LITCHFIELD PARK, Ariz. – Ella Zanatta shot a 1-under par 70 to lead a fantastic second round by the Central Michigan women's golf team on Tuesday at the BGSU Women's Intercollegiate at Wigwam Golf & Country Club.
Zanatta's 70 led the Chippewas to a program-best 287 team score which, coupled with their first-round 299, has the Chippewa tied for fifth in the 15-team field with a 586 total. The 586 is one shot shy of the program 36-hole record.
The third and final round of the 54-hole event is scheduled for Wednesday at 11 a.m. ET.
Lexi Schulman led a consistent top-to-bottom 36-hole performance by the Chippewas. The junior from Vernon Hills, Ill. opened with a 3-over 74 and then posted a 1-over 72, her career best aggregate score, in the second round. Her 4-over, 146 total has her tied for 22nd place.
Zanatta, Rachel Niskanen and Alexis McMurray are among a group tied for 25th at 5-over 147, while Zoe Dull is 31st at 6-over 148, and Brooke Morris is tied for 33rd at 8-over 150.
Zanatta opened with a 77 and then rebounded with a second-round 1-under 70; Niskanen posted an opening-round 74 and then shot 73 in the second round; McMurray, playing as an individual, matched Niskanen with 74-73; Dull shot a 1-over 72 in the second round after an first-round 76; and Morris posted matching 75s.
The Chippewas are tied for fith place with August, one shot behind fourth-place Bowling Green and six back of third-place Drake. The Chippewas are 11 shots of fellow Mid-American Conference member Toledo and 13 up on the other MAC team in the field, Northern Illinois.
UTEP leads the tournament with an even par 568. UT Arlington is second, seven shots back.
UTEP's Atikan Cherdchoo is at 3-under 139 (68-71) and leads the tournament by one shot over Brooklyn Millard of Toledo and Nichapas Thawinwan of UTEP.
