NAPA, Calif. – Jeffrey Andrus posted back-to-back even-par rounds on Monday to lead the Central Michigan men's golf team on day 1 of the Bridgestone Collegiate Invitational at Silverado Country Club.
Andrus' 144 total (72-72) ties him for 33rd in the 82-player field heading into Tuesday's final round, which is scheduled to begin at 12:30 p.m. ET.
CMU is the host team for the unique 14-team, 54-hole tournament which includes one international team, Tohoku Fukushi of Japan, and three HBCU schools, Howard, North Carolina A&T and Florida A&M.
Also for the Chippewas on Monday, Keith Hunter shot a 2-under 70 and then posted a 4-over 76 in the second round for a 145 total. He is tied for 45th.
CMU's Philippe Yturralde and Hudson Vedder both shot 152 and are tied for 71st, and Aydan Downer shot 154 and is tied for 75th. Veddar opened with a 2-over 74 and shot 78 in the second round, while Yturralde followed his opening-round 77 with a 3-over 75. Downer posted pair of 77s.
The Chippewas opened with a 293 team score and posted a 300 in the second round for a 593 total. They are in 13th place.
Kihei Akha, the No. 47-ranked player in the nation, opened with a 7-under 65 and then shot 5-under 67 in the second round for a 12-under 132 total and a three-shot lead over Lequan Wang of UC Davis (68-67 – 135).
Akha led the 27th-ranked Cougars to a two-round 28-under 548 (267-281) and an 11-shot lead over North Alabama (287-272).
